Japan’s automobiles company unveils a big plan to biogas plant investment in Manesar. The plant is set to produce 0.2 tons of biogas daily and generating about 100,000 standard cubic meters of biogas annually. The establishment of this plant could save Co2 emissions by approximately 190 tonnes each year.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has launched a pilot biogas plant at its Manesar facility for the fiscal year 2024-24. By implanting this plant, Maruti Suzuki moves towards sustainability and wants to support green initiatives.
The main objectives of this innovative project to convert in-house food waste and Naiper grass into energy, and this aligning with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s ‘Waste of Energy’ Programme.
The Maruti Suzuki’s this plant can produced 0.2 tons of biogas daily, generating about 100,000 standard cubic meters of biogas annually and reducing C02 emissions by approxmiately 190 tonnes each year to help in increasing green initatives.
By implementing this plant, Maruti Suzuki wants to creating a zero-discharge model by using this residual organic manure for using the residual organic manure for horticulture. In FY 2023-24, Maruti Suzuki invested around INR 120.8 crores in renewable energy initiatives, including biogas and solar power plant and the company also wants to investment more around INR 450 crores over the next three years which is starting from 20254-25 to significantly enhance its environmental sustainability efforts.
“Energy is one of the critical inputs in the manufacturing process” said that, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited. He also said that as we ramp up our production capacity from around 2 million to 4 million by 2030-31, we are also accelerating our efforts to increases the share of substainable and renewable energy sources across our our operations.
The biogas plant at Manesar is another steps towards fostering a cleaner and more substainable energy landscape at MSIL and the industry at large and just as we are also bringing multiple technologies in our products. We would also focus on multiple renewable energy sources to make our operation greener said CEO.
Maruti Suzuki actively works on green manufacturing practices as its Manesar and Kharkhoda facilities. The company has already expanded its solar capacity to 43.2 MWp in FY 2023-24 and plans to add on up to 15 MWp of solar capacity at the Manesar plant and 20 MWp at Kharkhoda plant over the next 2 years and this is in line with United Nations Sustainable Development goals.
